Primary 3 Curriculum Newsletter - Term 1

Welcome back to everyone in Primary 3. Everyone has settled in well and is working very hard.

Religious Education

This is an extremely important year for our Primary 3 children as they will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. In order to prepare the children we will be completing lessons in class and would ask for your support with this by completing any follow up homework issued. Our first Theme was Creation and how we all have a duty of care for the environment; thank you for your support with the homework tasks and attendance at mass. We look forward to seeing you again on Sunday 26th November.

Literacy

In Phonics we have been completing a revision block of sounds previously learned. The children will learn new sounds weekly and we would appreciate if you could reinforce these sounds at home.
We will  all continue to work on reciprocal reading strategies; predicting, clarifying, questioning and summarising. We use these strategies daily in class and your child should try to use them at home to support their reading. Please continue to encourage your child to read a variety of texts at home.

Numeracy

In numeracy and mathematics we will be working on addition and subtraction, data handling and money. In data handling we will be focusing on tally marks and bar graphs. We will be learning to calculate amounts up to, and work out change from £1. We will also continue to work hard to develop our quick mental recall of addition and subtraction stories and of multiplication fact for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

During Maths Week we took part in a range of activities. Our favourite activities were our orienteering challenge and the padlock challenge. We also had a visit from Mrs Hart to discuss with us how she uses Numeracy and Mathematics in her job. We found this very interesting and we have a number of fundraising ideas for the future.

Interdisciplinary Learning

We will continue to learn about our Global Goal; Life on Land. We will focus on this through exploring rainforests and habitats. We will look at the issues surrounding rainforests and think of positive steps we could take to help achieve this Global Goal.

Reminders

Just a little reminder that we have PE on a Wednesday and Friday. Please ensure that your child comes to school wearing a polo shirt and brings shorts to allow them to participate in our lessons, jewellery should also be removed.

Please remember to provide your child with a water bottle to ensure that they have access to a drink throughout the day.

Please note homework will be issued on a Monday and should be returned on a Thursday each week.
